How can I help my child?

  • By supporting your child’s homework.
  • Help and encourage your child to practice their spellings each week.
  • Encourage your child to read daily.
  • Help and encourage your child to develop their organisation skills when completing homework and returning it.

Homework

Reading: Reading is crucial to your child’s academic achievement in Year 5. Your child will take a reading book home weekly. Please listen to your child read and sign their journal to say you have read with them. Also, speaking to your child about what they have read and asking them questions to test their understanding is a fantastic way of helping to develop your child’s understanding of what they have read.

Spellings: On Fridays, the class will be given a list of words to learn for a spelling test on the following Friday.

Maths: Mathletics online or Times Table Rock Stars online

English: A range of online tasks may be sent to follow up on classwork. Please let us know if you do not have internet access.

We really do appreciate the help and support you give your child when completing homework!

Class Dojo

We believe communication is key to ensuring your child’s best chances at school so we will work hard to keep you up to date with your child’s learning.

Class Dojo is a great tool to help you to see what your child is achieving in the classroom. It is also a quick and easy way to message your child’s teachers. We encourage all families to sign up (further details on separate letter) and look forward to sharing your child’s achievements with you.

More information on this will follow. We look forward to working closely with you over this academic year.

ParentApps Connect

As a school, we are no longer sending paper copies of letters. All communication will be via our school app, called ParentApps Connect. If you have not signed up to this already, please do so as all important messages are communicated via the app.

If you need support to set up your account, please contact ParentApps on 0151 808 0093 or email info@parentapps.co.uk. If you still need help, please speak to a member of the school office.

We look forward to meeting you all soon and thank you for all you do to support your child.

Kindest regards,

Mrs Warburton and the Year 5 team.
